What is an Ultrasound? An ultrasound scan is a medical test that uses high-frequency sound waves to capture live images from the inside of your body. It’s also known as Sonography. The technology is similar to that used by sonar and radar, which help the military detect planes and ships. An ultrasound allows your doctor to see problems with organs, vessels, and tissues without needing to make an incision. Unlike other imaging techniques, ultrasound uses no radiation. For this reason, it’s the preferred method for viewing a developing fetus during pregnancy. Why an Ultrasound is performed? Most people associate ultrasound scans with pregnancy. These scans can provide an expectant mother with the first view of her unborn child. However, the test has many other uses. Your doctor may order an ultrasound if you’re having pain, swelling, or other symptoms that require an internal view of your organs. An ultrasound can provide a view of the: Bladder Brain (in infants) Eyes Gallbladder Kidneys Liver Ovaries Pancreas Spleen Thyroid Testicles Uterus Blood vessels

What is an Exercise Stress Test? An exercise stress test is used to determine how well your heart responds during times when it’s working its hardest. Why do an Exercise Stress Test? An exercise stress test is primarily used to help your doctor determine if your heart receives enough oxygen and proper blood flow when it needs it most, such as when you are exercising. It can be ordered for people who have been experiencing chest pains or other symptoms of coronary heart disease (also called coronary artery disease). An exercise stress test may also be used to help determine your level of health, especially if you are starting a new exercise program. This allows your doctor to learn what level of exercise you can safely handle. If you are a smoker over 40 years old, or if you have other risk factors for heart disease, you should talk to your doctor to see if an exercise stress test is a good idea for you. During the test, you’ll be asked to exercise — typically on a treadmill — while you’re hooked up to an electrocardiogram (EKG) machine. This allows your doctor to monitor your heart rate. The exercise stress test is also referred to as an exercise test or treadmill test.

What is Stress Echocardiography? A stress echocardiography, also called an echocardiography stress test or stress echo, is a procedure that determines how well your heart and blood vessels are working. During a stress echocardiography, you’ll exercise on a treadmill or stationary bike while your doctor monitors your blood pressure and heart rhythm. When your heart rate reaches peak levels, your doctor will take ultrasound images of your heart to determine whether your heart muscles are getting enough blood and oxygen while you exercise. Your doctor may order a stress echocardiography test if you have chest pain that they think is due to coronary artery disease or a myocardial infarction, which is a heart attack. This test also determines how much exercise you can safely tolerate if you’re in cardiac rehabilitation. The test can also tell your doctor how well treatments such as bypass grafting, angioplasty, and anti-anginal or antiarrhythmic medications are working. What are the risks associated with a Stress Echocardiography? This test is safe and noninvasive. Complications are rare, but can include: An abnormal heart rhythm. Dizziness or Fainting. Heart attack.

What is Spirometry Test? Spirometry is a standard test doctors use to measure how well your lungs are functioning. The test works by measuring airflow into and out of your lungs. To take a spirometry test, you sit and breathe into a small machine called a spirometer. This medical device records the amount of air you breathe in and out and the speed of your breath. Spirometry tests are used to diagnose these conditions: COPD asthma restrictive lung disease (such as interstitial pulmonary fibrosis) other disorders affecting lung function They also allow your doctor to monitor chronic lung conditions to check that your current treatment is improving your breathing. Spirometry is often done as part of a group of tests known as pulmonary function tests.

What is OPG (Dental Imaging)? An OPG (Orthopantomogram) is a scan that gives a panoramic view of your jaw and teeth. The scan can provide information on wisdom teeth, bone loss, orthodontic assessment, jaw trauma, dental pain, or be used as part of a general dental check-up. X-rays, also known as radiographs, are an essential part of any dental care treatment plan. They are diagnostic, but they can also be preventative, by helping a dentist diagnose potential oral care issues in a patient’s mouth before they become a major problem. An x-ray is a type of energy that passes through soft tissues and is absorbed by dense tissue. Teeth and bone are very dense, so they absorb X-rays, while X-rays pass more easily through gums and cheeks. What are the advantages of OPG (Dental Imaging)? Besides minimizing radiation exposure, digital x-rays offer numerous advantages to dentists and patients alike. These include: No chemical processing & no waiting: Because there is no film to process with digital x-rays, there is no waiting for pictures to develop — and no toxic chemicals to dispose of. Your dentist can immediately show you the pictures on a computer screen for easy viewing. A clearer picture: It’s possible to get more information from digital x-rays because they are sharper and can be enhanced in a number of ways. The contrast can be increased or decreased, and areas of concern can be magnified. It’s even possible to compare them on-screen to your previous x-rays, making even the minutest changes to your tooth structure easier to detect. Easy sharing and storage: Digital x-rays provide a better visual aide for you, the patient, to understand your diagnosis and treatment options. They can be e-mailed to different locations; they are also far less likely to be misplaced.

VAK operates Digital Mammography scan facility, which focus their attention towards a high quality yet low cost service through volumes. A Mammogram is an X-ray picture of the breasts. It is used to find tumor and to help tell the difference between noncancerous (benign) and cancerous (malignant) disease. Why is Mammography test Performed? Mammography is performed to screen healthy women for signs of breast cancer. It is also used to evaluate a woman who has symptoms of a breast disease, such as a lump, nipple discharge, breast pain, dimpling of the skin on the breast, or retraction of the nipple. Screening mammograms help improve the detection of early breast cancer, when it is more likely to be curable. Most but not all organizations recommend women for breast cancer screening at age 40 and have repeat mammograms every 1 to 2 years. All women over age 50 should have a screening mammogram every 1 to 2 years. Women who have or had mother or sister with breast cancer should begin yearly mammograms earlier than the age the family member was diagnosed. Breast ultrasound may also be used to screen women at high risk. In addition to mammography, clinical breast exams (the health care professional checks the breasts using the fingers) and monthly breast self-exams are often recommended. Women aged 20 and older should have a clinical breast exam every 3 years. Women aged 40 and older should have a clinical breast exam every year. All women aged 20 and older perform monthly breast self-examination. These are general recommendations for mammography, clinical breast exams, and breast self-exam. Women should discuss with their personal health care provider how often to receive breast cancer screening, including mammography and clinical breast exam. Recommendations vary depending on personal risk factors such as strong family history of breast cancer.
